Year 1
Welcome to Year 1!
Hello and a very warm welcome to our Year 1 class page!
My name is Miss Knobbs and I am the Year 1 teacher. Supporting Year 1 this term is Mrs Cliff. We are also lucky to have Mrs Trenchard with us 2-3 days per week this term, as she starts her journey to becoming a teacher.
We are so excited to begin this wonderful journey of learning, exploring and growing together. Year 1 is a very special time as children take their first steps into Key Stage 1, building on all the fantastic foundations from Reception. This term is very much part of the children's transition from Reception to Year 1.
On this page, you’ll find regular updates about what we’re learning in class, important dates and helpful resources to support learning at home. We love to celebrate our achievements, big and small and we hope you’ll enjoy seeing all the amazing things we get up to throughout the year.
We can’t wait to share this adventure with you!
School Day Timings

Autumn 1 Timetable

Key Information
PE days will be Tuesday and Thursday this half-term. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on these days. Just a reminder, children with long hair should have their hair tied up and should not be wearing jewellery for PE.

Reading books are changed at school following three group reads at school. This will normally be a Thursday. We ask that reading is completed at least four times a week at home, in order for the children to develop their automaticity, prosody and become fluent readers.
Phonics - 'Learning Leaflets' will be sent home, when the children have been taught/revised each set of 4 sounds. These leaflets are to inform parents of the new letter-sounds the children have been learning and the ones previously taught. They should be used to support and help the children to practise recognising and sounding out individual sounds, blending sounds together to read words and short phrases and sentences, and segmenting to spell words. Tricky words, which cannot be sounded out and need to be learnt by sight, will also be sent home.
If you have any queries or questions, please do speak to me in the morning or after school, or send a dojo message.
📚 Recommended Reads for Our Year Group 📚
We are excited to share a PDF containing 50 recommended reads for our year group. These books have been carefully selected to inspire a love of reading and help children discover new authors, genres, and stories to enjoy.
As part of our Year of Reading, we encourage you to explore this list with your child and support them in developing a lifelong love of reading for pleasure.
