Reception
Welcome to Reception Class 2026!
A warm welcome to our class page, where you will find key information about our class and learning.
Reception is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage, and really does build the foundations for future learning. In Reception there will be a mix of whole class and small group activities, and child-initiated learning within the provision indoors and out. Some activities will be led by an adult and some will be self-chosen by the children. Whatever the activity, we hope to have lots of fun while developing the children's literacy, maths, creative skills, and understanding of the world around them.
The key to all of this is having a solid foundation in communication and language and in social and emotional skills.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Miss Haycock

Reception Class Key Information
Water bottles - children should bring a water bottle, clearly marked with their name, to school every day.
Jewellery - No jewellery is allowed to be worn at school, apart from small stud earrings.
PE - Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children should come to school in their PE kit every Tuesday. Please ensure that earrings are removed and hair is tied up, for safety.
Reading Diaries - Children will read their reading book in a small group with an adult three times at school. This reading book will then be sent home for further practise and to develop fluency and automaticity. Reading books are changed weekly, following the three reads at school. This will normally be a Thursday.
Please listen to your child read at home 3-5 times per week. The reading diary should be signed by an adult each time your child reads. Comments about their reading can be made, to let staff know how they are doing at home. Children will get 3 Dojo points every time they read 3 times.
Clothing and personal belongings - please ensure that every item is clearly marked with your child's name.
Toys - no toys from home should be brought into school.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do speak to us, we are all very approachable. A member of staff will always be on the door at drop-off/pick-up time and/or you can message us via Class Dojo.
