French Curriculum Lead: Miss Haycock
“To learn a language is to open another window on the world.”
At St Thomas’, French begins in Year 3 and opens up a world of new sounds, cultures and possibilities for our pupils. Our aim is to build confidence, curiosity and enjoyment as children develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in a new language.
Through songs, stories, games and simple conversations, pupils learn to communicate in French while exploring the traditions, geography and daily life of French-speaking countries.
We want every child to feel that language learning is for them—something fun, valuable and achievable. By the time they leave Year 6, our pupils are ready to take on secondary-language learning with enthusiasm and a strong foundation.
