We Are a Rights Respecting School

At St. Thomas’, we are proud to be a UNICEF Rights Respecting School. This means that children’s rights are at the heart of everything we do.

The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) is based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and we are committed to creating a school environment where children feel safe, respected, and valued.

What This Means for Our School

    • We promote equality, respect, and a sense of belonging.
    • Our pupils learn about their rights and the rights of others, helping them grow into confident, caring global citizens.
    • Staff, pupils, and families work together to build a school community based on mutual respect and understanding.
    • Children's voices are heard and taken seriously – they are encouraged to lead change and make a positive impact both in school and beyond.

    Our Journey

We are currently working towards our Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award, and we continue to embed children's rights across our curriculum, policies, and everyday life.

    Why It Matters

We believe that when children understand their rights, they are empowered to:

    • Make informed choices
    • Show empathy and understanding
    • Stand up for fairness and justice

Being a Rights Respecting School helps us create a happy, inclusive, and respectful school community, where every child can thrive.

    Class Charters

Each class started the academic year, by creating their own class charter, based on children’s rights. This ensures a cohesive, respectful and calm learning environment.

                 RRSA Ambassadors

We have a dedicated team of pupils who regularly meet and work hard to promote rights in school and support pupil involvement in positive change, not only for our school community, but globally too.
