Forest Schools

As a pupil at St Thomas’ Primary School, your child will have the opportunity to experience forest school during the school year, from reception right up to year 6, led by our qualified and experienced forest school practitioners. Forest school has huge benefits for children, providing the perfect environment for holistic child development through essential life skills such as resilience, communication, perseverance, problem solving and self-confidence.

Forest school provides a valuable teaching tool for a wide range of curriculum subjects and is an excellent way to support and enrich the National Curriculum, engaging children with a variety of needs and learning styles. During sessions, children experience all sorts of woodland activities that help them to build an understanding and appreciation of the world around them as well as learning together in a totally unique way. As the children become more comfortable with living and working in the woodland, the programme becomes more learner led and is a journey of discovery directed by the children.
