Sports Premium
At St Thomas’ C of E Academy, we strive for all our children to achieve their God-given academic and personal potential; therefore, it is our ambition is to provide children with a broad and balanced physical education curriculum that motivates all students to flourish in competitive sport and other physical activities. We pride ourselves in offering a wide range of varied opportunities for students to succeed, achieve and feel self-assured within all aspects of physical activity, which will benefit their health and well-being. The school’s values of fairness, trust and celebration are clearly embedded through the physical education opportunities the children have, whether this is through engaging, well-planned lessons, extra-curricular opportunities and both competitive inter-school and intra-school competition.
We focus on a strategy of developing skills for sports (rather than teaching sports for skills) since we believe the fundamental physical skills taught here need to be transferable to other types of physical activity, outside of school and beyond. We provide the children within the school, equal opportunity to develop the knowledge and understanding of physical education appropriate to their age and ability, regardless of gender, race, religion and special needs of all kinds. And, most importantly, all our pupils enjoy their Physical Education with smiles on their faces as this we believe this is the key to children developing a life-long love for physical activity and sport.
We are really proud to be a Gold Standard Schools Games Mark school.
As part of the 2012 Olympic Games legacy, all schools receive additional funding to enhance the quality of PE teaching and develop school sport. At St Thomas' C of E Academy, we are committed to using this funding sustainably to make a long-lasting impact on our pupils’ health, wellbeing, and physical development.
How We Use Our Sports Premium Funding
We invest this funding to:

Create sustainable improvements that benefit pupils now and in the future.
-
Increase and improve PE equipment to support high-quality, engaging lessons.
-
Broaden participation by introducing a wider range of sports accessible to all children.
-
Enhance swimming provision, ensuring every child has access to swimming facilities and the opportunity to develop essential water-safety skills.
Our aim is to ensure every pupil experiences high-quality physical education, develops a lifelong love of sport, and has the opportunity to be active, confident, and healthy.
